Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day: Inspiring the next generation of problem solvers

February 26, 2026

Every year, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) shines a spotlight on the importance of helping girls see themselves in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) careers. More than a single day of recognition, Girl Day is part of a broader movement to build confidence, spark curiosity, and show young people how engineers help shape the world around us.

Early exposure matters. When girls have opportunities to explore engineering concepts, meet role models, and ask questions, they are more likely to develop a lasting interest in STEAM fields. Encouraging that curiosity today helps build a more innovative, inclusive workforce tomorrow; one better equipped to tackle complex challenges like water scarcity, infrastructure resilience, and emerging technologies.

At Carollo, we’re proud to support efforts that connect students with real engineers doing meaningful work. This year, we asked several of our female engineers a simple but powerful question:

What Would You Say to a Girl Who’s Curious About Engineering?

“Engineering is more than math and science—it’s solving real problems for real people. It takes communication, collaboration, and creativity. We need bold thinkers who ask questions and challenge the status quo. Your perspective could change everything!”

— Anne Prudhel, PE, Executive Vice President

“If you’re passionate about making the world a better place, engineering is your path. It gives you the power to not just lead the change, but to actually design it.”

— Sunshine Saucedo, PE, Lead Engineer

“Being an engineer is really fulfilling because you get to be part of solving real-life problems and see your work implemented for everyday purposes. More female engineers are needed because we bring a valuable perspective to a male-dominated field.”

— Nikita Kowal, PE, Wastewater Engineer

“If you’re curious about how things work and want to make a difference, engineering could be an ideal career. Engineers tackle climate change, create clean water solutions, design impactful systems, and use science to help people and the planet.”

— Rashi Gupta, PE, Wastewater Practice Director

“Engineering is about curiosity and solving real problems that help people and communities. If you like asking ‘how does this work?’ or ‘how can I make this better?’ engineering gives you the tools to turn those questions into real-world impact.”

— Haley Chavez, Staff Professional

“Lean into your curiosity and learn what inspires you by exploring different engineering paths. You can help provide safe drinking water, build satellites for space, or improve car designs. Engineering empowers you to make a meaningful impact.”

— Erica Yarbrough, PE, Lead Engineer

STEAM Education: Encouraging the Engineers of Tomorrow

The future of engineering depends on diverse perspectives, fresh ideas, and curious minds willing to ask big questions. By introducing girls to engineering early, we can help more students see a place for themselves in this field.

Whether you’re an educator, parent, mentor, or industry professional, you can play a role. Start a conversation, share a resource, or connect a student with an engineer. Small moments of encouragement can spark lifelong career paths.
